Phase 1: Savin Engineers completed the preliminary and final design for the first landfill gas combustion system in Westchester County, New York. The purpose of the system or “flare” is to evacuate and dispose of landfill gas from the existing landfill gas venting system at the Railroad 1 area of Croton Point Landfill. Because of NYSDEC requirements, this system was a temporary measure prior to installation of a larger, more permanent unit. Savin also provided start-up services during construction and helped the project meet its very tight schedule.
Phase 2: The largest landfill gas collection system installed to date in Westchester County, this unit and the appurtenant equipment was designed to reduce landfill gas migration in the RR1 section of the Croton Point Landfill. Handling up to 235 scfm of landfill gas, the system is capable of the thermal destruction of typical landfill gas components at temperatures exceeding 1200° F. It has met or exceeded NYSDEC air permit requirements.
